There was a gain for the party on Tandridge District Council in Surrey earlier this month with David Lee winning the contest in Whytleafe ward with a 119 vote majority ahead of the Conservatives. The party recorded a 15.3% swing from the Tories as their vote share increased by 22.8% from last May . David, who is also the Lib Dem PPC for East Surrey, becomes the party’s seventh member of the council.

On the 2nd April, the by-election In Cadnant ward in Gwynedd saw a Labour gain from Plaid Cymru by a slender margin of 48 votes. Plaid, who now hold 34 of the councils 75 seats, saw a sharp decrease in their vote share from the ward’s 2012 contest by 32.5% as Labour gained their fifth council member.

There was also a Liberal Democrat gain on Brecon Town council with Sam Bennett winning in St Mary’s ward.
