Last week saw the first by-election of the new Council term in Scotland in the Western Isles, and our candidate Jamie Dobson secured an excellent result.
In a Council where we have not contested since 2007 in any local election, Jamie managed to take second place and was only 58 votes away from being elected in the Sgìr Ùige Agus Carlabhagh ward. While it was won by an Independent, the good news is we came ahead of the other parties including the SNP here.
This is our best result ever in the Western Isles, and it would not have been possible without hard work on the ground by Jamie and the team. They delivered leaflets, letters and knocked on lots of doors.
We are clearly in contention here, but it also shows we can be in contention anywhere if the work is put in.
