Support your local Macmillan Coffee Morning

The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event for people facing cancer. They ask people all over the UK to host their own coffee mornings and donations on the day are made to Macmillan. Last year alone they raised £27.5 million and this year they are aiming to raise even more.

Here are a few top tips

  • Hosting your own coffee morning is easy. All you have to do is sign up. They will send you some kit (within 10 – 12 working days) to help your coffee morning go successfully.
  • If you’re unable to host a coffee morning yourself… see where your closest one is happening. It’s great to be able to support local businesses, residents and this great charity.
  • Publicise any events in your area through your email to residents and any other social media.
  • We have placed below a draft press release for you to use to show support for a local event:

Cllr NAME joins the World’s biggest coffee morning

Councillor Name was delighted to join local residents across AREA to support Macmillan Cancer Support’s flagship fundraiser World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, on Friday 29 September. Last year, people getting together over coffee and cake raised a record-breaking £27.5million for people affected by cancer and it looks to be another record breaking year.

Cllr NAME said, “It is always a pleasure to participate in such a fantastic event. Everyone knows someone who is affected by cancer – and it’s comforting to know that charities like Macmillan are working hard to raise money and support those in need.

“The super event at LOCATION  has raised much-needed cash for Macmillan to continue their work. I know residents across AREA are holding coffee mornings at work and afternoon tea parties with the knowledge that every cake baked and cup of coffee bought helps Macmillan continue to ensure no one faces cancer alone.”

The first official World’s Biggest Coffee Morning took place in 1991 and has gone on to be the biggest fundraising event of its kind, raising over £165million for people affected by cancer. By 2020 almost one in two people will get cancer at some point in their lives so the money raised at Coffee Mornings will ensure those people get the support they need.
