It’s not every day when a council leader from another party resigns, votes for the Lib Dem opposition leader to become council leader and urges his colleagues to do the same. But that is what happened in Lewes recently.

Ultimately, the ruling Conservatives needed a UKIP councillor’s vote to cling on to power.
