The Liberal Democrats on the Local Government Association have been in contact with the Royal British Legion Industries – which supports local government to fulfil their commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant.
There are two ways local authorities can work with the RBLI:
1) By advertising an RBLI LifeWorks course which helps Veterans into employment, education and training. These are funded courses, so they can be run at no cost to the local authority and have an 80+% success rate. Local authorities can help by raising awareness of the support offered and finding Veterans to support e.g. by identifying them using other services or through their networks with local organisations and charities.
2) By supporting RBLI’s Social Enterprise, ‘Britain’s Bravest Manufacturing Company’, which trains and employs Armed Forces Veterans. The team manufacture a number of products, including road signs. RBLI currently has contracts with large organisations including Network Rail, Leeds City Council, highways England and Kent County Council providing signs across the country.
RBLI wants to work with more local authorities, so are encouraging them where they can to buy products and in other areas, asking local authorities to discuss #buysocial with their suppliers – encouraging them to have social enterprises including Britain’s Bravest Manufacturing Company, in their supply chain.
