G8 Campaign Support of the 2027 Local Elections
Applications for G8 are now open. G8 is a funding scheme to help elect more Liberal Democrats in local government, and to make sure support reaches council areas that couldn’t otherwise afford campaigning at this scale. It is funded by the Federal, English, Scottish and Welsh parties, managed by the G8 Committee and administered by ALDC.
ALDC and the Campaigns and Elections Department are working together on G8 which now offers a menu of campaign support. You can apply for whatever will make the most difference in your campaign:
- Hand-delivered direct mail
- Royal Mail Door to Door
- Social media buy-in
In some cases, a small cash grant may be awarded instead, where this will make the most difference to your campaign.
Please make a separate application for each ward. The criteria for G8 are:
- There must be a candidate in place by 1 December 2026
- The seat must be a gain
- There are no electoral pacts in place with other parties in the local authority area
- Local authorities without an MP will be prioritised
- Awards will be limited to two in councils that elect by thirds and have had G8 awards this cycle.
The deadline for applications is Friday 30 October 2026 at 11am.
You can also buy in to additional support beyond any award you receive — for example more letters in the same ward, letters for additional wards, or extra social media spend — using the same cost-effective bulk rates that G8 benefits from.
ALDC will provide templates for the direct mail hand delivery which can be used on either Artworker or Affinity for Canva.
