Campaign Pack: Sewage Scandal 2026 (England and Wales)

The Environment Agency recently released updated figures for sewage discharges at all monitored points in England and Wales during 2025.

The figures show that over 2.65 million hours of sewage dumping took place last year. This is a slight decrease on the previous year, however 2025 was a year of drought and record warm weather in many parts of the country. As untreated sewage can only legally be discharged during periods of extreme rainfall, this arguably makes 2025 the most scandalous year of the whole sewage crisis.

The Rivers Trust have recorded information of sewage spills at each overflow point on their website over the past year. You can use their interactive map to view the sewage discharges in your areas, their durations and the water course that has been polluted. This provides some excellent local data for you to localise your campaign.

Surfers against Sewage also have a real-time map recording live sewage incidents at each outlet.

The average water bill rise for each part of the UK in 26/27 is also linked below.

Finally data gather by Top of the Poops has recorded the sewage discharge data by constituency for 2025. This shows, in particular, that Wales is a region severely affected by the sewage scandal.

ALDC has produced some updated templates and resources, so you can continue to campaign on this major issue in your local area.
