Liberal Democrats in Parliament and local government have become increasingly distressed by the real term cuts that England’s primary and secondary schools will face in the next few years.
A recent report by the National Audit Office found that schools must find savings of around £3 billion by 2020 to cope with mounting cost pressures.
Teaching unions have developed a helpful new website – www.schoolcuts.org.uk – that shows the impact of these cost pressures, as well as the new National Funding Formula, on individual schools and local authorities.
With local elections approaching, the Parliamentary Adviser Unit, the LGA Liberal Democrat Group and ALDC have together produced a campaign pack that you may wish to use in your upcoming campaigns. A big thank you to Andrew Burrell, Rosie Shimell and Jenny Steinitz for their work on this pack.
We also enclose two factsheets that you may find helpful in understanding the issues involved and the policy stances being taken by Liberal Democrats in Parliament.
We hope that you find this campaign pack useful, and wish you every success in the upcoming elections.
