National School Meals Week: Graphic & Statistics

This week is National School Meals Week and Liberal Democrats across the country are promoting one of our key achievements in government, the extension of free school meals to all 5-7 year olds.

Please find below some materials to help you promote our policy of free meals for all infants during National School Meals Week. Cllr Liz Green, LGA Lib Dem lead and Deputy Chair on the LGA Children and Young People Board, said…

“This policy has been the source of some controversy in local government but the benefit to parents and pupils is obvious.

Some have questioned whether it’s the best use of the money and some schools and councils have found difficulty getting their kitchens up to capacity in time. This last point is one we have raised repeatedly with Nick Clegg and David Laws and are pleased to see that they have responded with a series of funding announcements to help schools struggling with capacity.

However, there has been a lot of hard work in government, in schools and in councils to make this work so it is great to see infants now benefitting from a daily nutritious meal. I know that it has gone down extremely well with parents of infants and hope you are finding a similar reception for it in your area. Please use the materials below to make sure they all know it was the Lib Dems that made this happen.”

Lib Dem HQ have created a neat graphic for social sharing online, which can be downloaded from the ALDC File Library, here.

Also, this combined spreadsheet will give local campaigners details of how free school meals, the Pupil Premium and free child care are working to deliver positive change to families in our communities.

Last but not least. Lib Dem parliamentary candidate for Mid Dorset and North Poole has made this excellent video on free school meals, also worthy of sharing on social media.
