A Selection of Lib Dem Motions from Oldham’s October Council

Our friends in Oldham have recently had their October Council and we have selected three of their submitted motions to share.

Mountain Rescue VAT Exemption

This is a fantastic campaign, being led by Chris Davies and Tim Farron. Mountain Rescue teams have a huge amount of public support, especially in areas where they operate, and this campaign lends itself very easily to press releases, letters to the paper, Focus stories and more. In flatter areas (!), it is still possible to campaign on this issue if you can find climbing clubs (either university-based or otherwise) or other interested parties to involve.

Self-Build Housing

A subject that is rapidly growing in prominence throughout communities in the UK, this motion works well to highlight the government assistance already available and calls for councils to do more to help.

‘Snow Angels’

A community initiative that other councils have implemented to ensure that vulnerable residents are not alone or facing a risky outdoor environment in the event of cold weather. Given the long-range forecasts for November, this is something we could all do with looking into asap!
