ALDC has for many years provided local election By-Election analysis for the rest of the party. Up to now this information has been shared with the rest of the party at internal party meetings and to ALDC’s members every six months via our Local Campaigner publication Given that we accumulate the data for this analysis it seemed like common sense to develop our service online. We are now launching to ALDC members a “real time”, week by week analysis of our by-election performance for the year to date in a new “By-election Analysis” section of our www.aldc.org/elections website. So now our online by-election service is in five parts:
1. Forthcoming By-elections – When you tell us when there are by-elections coming up (you can do this online) we will list them on our website in date order and this forms the basis of those subsequently printed in Lib Dem news.
2. Results – we publish the results of these by-elections usually around lunchtime on Friday on our website and in the following weeks Lib Dem news. The results and forthcomings can be sent to you each week as an email on request, again usually on a Friday afternoon.
3. By election Commentary – every week we give a commentary on the more interesting or informative by-elections. This is published here in Lib Dem news (this article) and online at https://www.aldc.org/elections/by-elections-commentary/
4. Campaign Stories. For those campaigns of particular merit or interest we ask the organisers of the campaign to write a more extensive report and publish some in our Local Campaigner publication and others in https://www.aldc.org/campaigner/campaign-stories/
5. By – Election Analysis – see above.
We also give advice and support to members who are facing a by-election, including our “Winning Your Local By-election” publication.
In order to make this service as effective as possible, ALDC needs to be informed about by-elections as early as possible. You can do this on the phone or online whether you are a member of ALDC or not.
When the campaign is over please let ALDC have copies of your by-election artwork and copies also of any opposition artwork, email them to john.bridges@aldc.org
