Whilst many local parties have development plans to help organise their campaigning all year round, it’s useful for council groups to do something similar.
A group development plan is a helpful tool to make sure that you create an active, campaigning council group, and also helps to identify the gaps in skills and knowledge within the group. The example plan that you can download below helped that particular group improve its skills – such as helping them to use EARS effectively – as well as implementing a system for policy development and raising the profile of the work of the council group.

ALDC also produces a pack called Effective Group Management that provides lots of useful information on how to organise your council group as well as other guides on organising away days, councillor mentoring and councillor one-to-ones. You can buy a copy in the ALDC shop.
