Emma Hockridge, Soil Association at Food Miles Fringe

Liberal Democrat Spring Conference takes place 6-8 March 2009 in Harrogate. If you’ve not registered yet and would like to follow this link.

We will be circulating fuller details of the whole Local Government programme nearer the time, but here’s a first preview of ALDC’s programme in Harrogate:

Fringe
We have three fringe meetings organised for you: On Friday evening we’re working with our colleagues in the European Parliamentary Party to bring you a fringe on how European and local issues link together – particularly relevant for the elections this summer! On Saturday lunchtime we’re working with the Leadership Centre for Local Government to bring a special meeting on the national roll-out of the “Be a Councillor” programme for attracting and recruiting council candidates. At the end of the afternoon on Saturday we’ll be making the case for more social housing in the light of current circumstances.

Campaigner Training
Campaigner training (all on Saturday – free to all Party members) sees sessions on: “11 weeks to go” (to 4th June); Polling Day – the basics; “if you don’t do this, you won’t win” (postal votes, direct mail and telephoning for local campaigns) and Keeping Your Council Seat.

Councillor Training
Our programme of councillor training this conference comprises sessions on Scrutiny of Finance; pavement politics to strategic politics (both of these sessions are ALDC and the IDeA); making thw most of your myCouncillor website and Finding Council Candidates (with London Councils).

More details on all these sessions will follow with the Local Government Directory in the next month. Please get in touch if you need to know more.
