Local Elections 2026: Let’s keep moving forwards

The local elections in 2025 were the seventh in a row in which the Lib Dems moved forwards. Gaining more seats, and running more councils.

The next set of local elections in May 2026 are bigger than last years. All London councils are up for election and there are major unitary council elections across England, as well as elections to brand new authorities as part of Local Government Reorganisation. At least 4200 council seats will be contested.

How YOU can Help

ALDC’s Local Election Appeal is a funding stream set up to directly support local elections candidates working hard to win. It will support extra literature being posted to key voters in key target wards – with a strong focus on Lib Dem gains and helping candidates from groups under-represented in local government. In 2025, the Local Election Appeal supported 27 winning Lib Dem candidates. With a much larger set of elections this year we want to support even more.

This year we want to raise £30,000. This isn’t just a number—it’s what we need to communicate with key voters in 200 pivotal wards. In razor-thin contests, your contribution might very well tip the balance.
