Local Campaigner Awards 2026 – Get your nominations in now!

ALDC’s Local Campaigner Awards will return this year – celebrating the best Liberal Democrat campaigns over the past year.

Nominations are now open!

You can nominate your own local party or another. Please don’t be shy. If you had a great local election result this year, a great by-election result, a brilliant councillor or council group achievement, or some great literature go out – we want to hear from you.

The awards will be presented at ALDC’s AGM on Saturday 19 September from 20:15 to 21:45 in the Charlotte Room at the Grand Hotel, Brighton. Someone from the nominated local party must be there to collect the award in person.

The deadline for nominations is Sunday 30 August 2026.

Best Local Election Campaign

May’s local elections saw the Lib Dems move forwards for the eighth year in a row. We won majorities on a number of new councils (including some newly formed unitarity authorities). We also moved forwards significantly on a number of councils – helping us become official oppositions, form joint administrations and even take the leadership of some of the largest councils in the UK.

We fought so many amazing local campaigns – and we want to hear how you did it! Tell us about your winning strategy. What was your killer message? What innovative new ideas did you use? What great literature did you deliver? Did you keep the Green Party and Reform at bay? How well did you squeeze other parties? Let us know in your nomination!

Best By-Election Campaign

Have you fought a great council by-election campaign since our last Autumn Conference? We’d love to hear your story. We continue to deliver incredible by-election results every week. Last year we won more council by-elections than any other party (including Reform), and since 7 May this year we have won the second highest number of by-elections (only one behind Reform). Let us know how you achieved your brilliant results this year.

Best Literature

Has your local party produced an outstanding literature in the past year. Has your literature helped you towards a great local election result or by-election win, or delivered success on a big local issue? We want to celebrate your best leaflets. These can relate to a single campaign, or just be a consistently excellent set of literature delivered throughout the year. Please send examples as part of your nomination.

Best Councillor Achievement

We want to celebrate the success of great community champion councillors. Have you run an inspiring community campaign? Have you managed to get your council to change its mind? Have you campaigned with local residents to benefit your area? Have you found innovative ways to reach and engage people. Please nominate either yourself or a colleague who has made a difference in the past year.

President’s Award

There will also be a special award given out at the ceremony to celebrate an individual or team who have gone above and beyond in the pursuit of Liberal Democrat success over many years of service to the party. If you know a person or team who deserves special recognition in this category, please let us know why.

Best Overall Performance

Finally there will be an Overall Winner of the 2026 Local Campaigner Awards. This will be chosen from all of the nominations in every category of the awards so there is no need to make any further nominations for this award. So please stay right until the end!
