Understanding Islamophobia
To mark Muslim Heritage Month in the UK this session will discuss the roots and impact of Islamophobia and promote practical solutions, both at a national and local community level.
Join us on Monday 30 March at 12:30pm for this free webinar open to all Lib Dem members.
We will explore the current widely accepted definition of Islamophobia (adopted by the Lib Dems) as well as share real life examples, insights into historical myths and explore how to reframe narratives. There will be time for a short Q&A with the speakers.
About the speakers:
Mariam Hakim is a Lib Dem candidate in Merton for the 2026 local elections. Mariam is a mother of two young children, a school governor and advocates for interfaith understanding – especially within schools and at a local community level. Mariam has previously worked for the APPG on British Muslims, race relations think tanks and writes on issues to do with interfaith and Muslim women.
Lib Dem London Assembly Member and Cllr Hina Bokhari regularly advocates for the need for Islamophobia training and will be introducing this session.
This webinar is completely free. You just need to book your place and we will send you a zoom code.
