ALDC is holding a free mini-conference Winning in a Crowded Field: Winning local government elections in multi-party politics on Friday 18 September 2026 at Autumn Conference in Brighton.
Local government elections are now often multi-party contests between the Liberal Democrats, Reform, Labour, Conservative, the Green Party and nationalist parties in Wales and Scotland.
The latest YouGov poll from the 24 March puts the Liberal Democrats, Reform, Labour, the Conservatives and the Green Party all within 10 polling points of each other.
This will have a huge impact on how we campaign. Our squeeze message must adapt to a multi-party field, turnouts are likely to increase, the winning line becomes smaller with votes splitting between more parties, and key groups such as postal voters become even more vital.
At ALDC’s Winning in a Crowded Field conference you will hear from experienced campaigners from across Britain on how to win muti-party elections.
The event is completely free but we will be accepting donations on the door to help cover costs. You need to register in advance as places are limited to 80, so please book early to avoid disappointment.
