Campaign Pack: Sewage Scandal 2025 (Wales)

The Environment Agency recently released updated figures for sewage discharges at all monitored points in Wales during 2024.

The figures showed that over 937,000 hours of sewage dumping took place in Wales last year. It is estimated that Wales is the worst-affected part of the UK for sewage discharges in rivers, seas and beauty spots. Despite the talk of both Conservative and Labour Governments, the sewage crisis is actually getting worse – and Wales is being severely affected by it.

This remains a huge and emotive issue.

The Rivers Trust have recorded information of sewage spills at each overflow point on their website. You can use their interactive map to view the sewage discharges in your areas, their durations and the water course that has been polluted. This provides some excellent local data for you to localise your campaign.

The rivers trust map also records data for previous years – so you can monitor if sewage dumping is getting worse in your council area.

ALDC has produced some updated templates and resources, so you can continue to campaign on this major issue in your local area.
