Good Practice Example – Cutting Youth Unemployment in Sutton

Lib Dem run Sutton Council and its local partners have introduced a range of initiatives to reduce youth unemployment in the borough, meaning a drop in youth unemployment of 31% between November 2012 and November 2013.

These include targeted outreach work in deprived wards, targeted work with young people who are not in employment, education or training (NEETs), a lone parent project, amending Section 106 planning guidance to create jobs, training and apprenticeships in new developments, and a careers fair providing young people with information, advice and guidance about different career options.
