The Department for Transport (DfT) has announced that they plan to consult on the future of licensing for community transport. This could have implications related to the use of permits by providers carrying out local authority work. The LGA will be working with councils and the DfT on the consultation to help them understand how this may impact on councils.

This week the LGA have called on the Government to support new legislation in order to modernise the licensing system for taxis and private hire vehicles (PHVs). The Government has announced a working group which will explore this issue, which the LGA will be involved in and we hope that this will result in new legislation.
