Election Law Helpline 2018

It is vital that all Liberal Democrats stay on the right side of the law throughout the forthcoming election campaign. So… we’ll be here to help you do this through our Election Law Helpline, which is now open.

We are again providing free election law advice to campaigners in England for their forthcoming local elections, regardless of whether they’re ALDC members.

We can provide answers to practical issues around election law, such as on: nominations, DNOs, imprints, expenses, etc. And we can provide answers to other election law issue queries, such as: libel and defamation.

There are three ways you can access our advice:

  1. By email – Email your queries to advice@aldc.org and we’ll make sure that the most appropriate person deals with your query as quickly as possible.
  2. By phone – Phone us on 0161 212 1012 between 9.30am–5pm, Monday to Friday. Outside of these hours, please leave an answerphone message and we will get back in touch as soon as we can.
  3. Online – ALDC members are able to browse our Advice FAQ Articles which contain the answers to many election law queries.

We promise to try to deal with all advice requests as soon as possible. Our normal standard is that advice requests received before 2pm on a working day are dealt with that day; and requests received after 2pm, will be dealt with the following morning. However please be patient with us during busy periods.

We are not lawyers and we’ll not be able to give formal legal opinion, but we can help talk you through the issues and what needs to be considered.

There are systems in place for more complex and urgent cases to be referred to specialist advisers elsewhere. We will advise you if this is what we intend to do with your query.
