National School Meals Week takes place from Monday 13 to Friday 17 November in England and Wales. The week enables the education catering industry to celebrate all that is great about school meals.
A flagship Lib Dem achievement in the Coalition, the 2017 Liberal Democrat manifesto promised to extend free school meals to all primary school pupils.
Universal free school meals offer every infant child a healthy meal at lunchtime, which saves families more than £400 per child per year. Evidence shows that where children have been given a free school dinner, their results improved when compared to youngsters who didn’t get one. These academic improvements were most marked among children from the poorest backgrounds.
