Applications to take part in this year’s Next Generation programme must be made by Friday (2nd August). If you are interested in taking part in this free course to develop leadership skills and contacts, read on to find out more.
Next Generation is a training and development programme to develop our ‘future leaders’ in local government. The programme is organised in three separate party-political programmes, the Liberal Democrat one is organised by ALDC.
Next Generation is now in its eighth year. Each year we take a group of younger Liberal Democrat councillors and guide them through a programme which includes:
- looking at existing Liberal Democrat success on the ground, both in opposition and control.
- developing participants’ individual skills, including a 360 degree assessment of skills and access to mentoring.
- engagement with key people within the Party. All our recent cohorts have met the Deputy Prime Minister, the Party Chief Executive and Lib Dem ministers, MPs, peers and Council Leaders.
What people have said about previous years:
” I have been very impressed with the calibre of the councillors who have been on the Liberal Democrat Next Generation programme. This is clearly a programme for those councillors who are committed to the Local Government agenda.” Nick Clegg MP, Leader of the Liberal Democrats and Deputy Prime Minister.
“I was on the very first Next Generation programme and am delighted to see that it is now in its seventh year. This is an excellent programme for any councillor who aspires to any leadership role in Local Government. I certainly found it extremely helpful.” Cllr Ruth Dombey, Leader of London Borough of Sutton Council.
