Bournemouth is the venue for this year’s Liberal Democrat Federal Party Conference (19-23 September 2009). (Book online here.)
We’ve already reported on our “BASIC SKILLS” programme of free courses for Lib Dem volunteer campaigners (Sunday-Tuesday in the morning); and on ALDC’s busy fringe programme. (Details of both here.)
Effective Lib Dem Councillors
Once again this year we’ve teamed up with our friends at the IDeA (Improvement and Development Agency) to bring you the only programme at Conference aimed at developing Lib Dem Councillors.
On Sunday and Monday during the day we’ve a series of eight sessions with the IDeA:
– Councils, Climate Change and Carbon Reduction
– Health Scrutiny
– Members and Officers
– Culture and Leisure
– Member Development Charter
– Managing a Coalition
– Councils: Helping Citizens through the Recession
– Doing More with Less
Also during Sunday, Monday and Tuesday we’ve a number of other sessions which will be of interest to Councillors:
– Women Councillors, Skills and Development (Sunday 4.00pm)
– Holding your Council Seat (Monday 2.30pm)
ALDC has been working with our friends at the Leadership Centre for Local Government over the last year to develop the Liberal Democrat programme of the Be a Councillor project. If you’ve missed out on the regional programme of events about finding good and diverse Council candidates don’t worry, as you’ve another chance in Bournemouth:
– Finding Candidates (Tuesday 2.30pm)
– and a special training the trainers session ‘Be a councillor’ (9.15 – 12.30 Tuesday morning)
More information on all of these sessions nearer the time, in our Conference Directory.
Campaigner Awards 2009
On Saturday evening at Bournemouth, the highlight of ALDC’s Annual General Meeting will be the Campaigner Awards 2009 presented by Party President Ros Scott.
We’ve had a brilliant response to the awards this year which give you a chance to win up to £500 for your local party.
There is still chance to enter – submissions close on Monday (31st August) which should be emailed to: firstname.lastname@example.org
