Doing it by the book works
Stan Collins replied: 11 October 2009 21:52

The result for Penrith West shows just what can be done if you do it by the book (and have a good and committed candidate!). In this election we gained almost as many votes in what was believed to be the worse half the division as we did in the entire county division in June. Credit goes to Andrew and Patricia Bell for doing a great job, in spite of difficult family circumstances, as well as to our candidate Elissa Robinson. Elissa performed like a trouper, out every night canvassing and helping with the organisation. Paul Trollope and his team produced good, punchy leaflets and people from across Cumbria rallied round as well. Ohhhh! It feels so good!!

BNP called this by-election
Stan Collins replied: 24 September 2009 20:15

This election was called by the BNP after the leader (independent) of the council was arrested and resigned from council. They got a vote of over 100 in the county election in this division (this plus another ward) in June and did voter id, unlike us. Elissa is a well-liked and respected local person and we are running a modern campaign. The local party is working hard to drag itself forward and deserves all the help it can get, BNP or no BNP. This by-election is an important part of the long-term strategy for this district adn for Cumbria county as a whole. Help us plant an acorn here by winning!
