Based on "average " votes the changes were: Con +6.8%, Lab +4.2%, LD -0.8% and BNP -10.3% . Based on "top" candidate votes the changes were: Con +8.8%, Lab +3.5%, LD -3.2% and BNP -9.1%.

Roger - I agree that local elections are a microcosm of the national mood, which is why (this result aside) it is good to see how well the Lib Dems are doing at the moment. It's the Lib Dems and Labour who have had a net gain in seats since the General Election, and the Conservatives who have been losing seats.

Local elections are a microcosm of the national mood and 'Cleggism'... dump policies; desert the grass-roots; touch the Eton coat tail for a share of power... wins little credibility with the electorate. When the Lib-Con, 'con' falls apart, lib-dems will again have a party to vote for. On a local level, a barrage of leaflets with dubious claims was probably the final nail...
